During the meeting with Keilir, Reykjanesbær and TRU
During the meeting with Keilir, Reykjanesbær and TRU
We had the pleasure to welcome Dean Dr. Douglas Booth from Thompson Rivers University in a formal visit to Keilir in November. Dr. Booth is the Dean for the Faculty of Adventure, Culinary Arts and Tourism at TRU which has partnered and accredited our adventure guide studies program since 2013.

Dr. Booth stressed the importance of the cooperation with Keilir and the contribution the adventure program is making to the tourism industry in Iceland. Furthermore he emphasised that the program focuses on training qualified and skilled guides as well as produce the next generation of tourism entrepreneurs in Iceland.

During the visit representatives from Keilir and Dr. Booth expressed mutual interest in further collaboration and participation in joint educational projects within hospitality, adventure events and eco tourism, as well as strengthening the cooperation within the adventure guide program, e.g. in international marketing and faculty exchange.

Eight month adventure ridden study in Iceland

The Adventure Studies Program (Adventure Sport Certificate) in Iceland is on university level and takes only eight months, with half the time in practical training in locations all around Iceland. The program is a 60 credit intensive education building on local and international expertise within the field and using the unique and accessible natural environment in Iceland as a practical class room. The program is a solid foundation for all major parts of adventure tourism and benefits especially those that are interested in an introduction to adventure sports, improving current adventure sport skills or exploring the adventure industry as a future career.

The education has received both domestic and international recognition the last few years with a total of close to 100 students completing the program in Iceland, including students from close to twenty different nationalities. Next courses begin in August 2020.
