New ATPL syllabus with ICETRA

The Icelandic Transport Authority (ICETRA) will implement a new ATPL syllabus as advertised on their website.

There it says that a new ATPL? syllabus will be implemented at Icelandic flight schools after? May 31st 2020.? This ?will affect all students who undergo theoretical training after the implementation date, and also older students who start a new attempt at theoretical knowledge exams? at ?ICETRA after? August 31st 2020,which will be examined using a new question bank. "Older students" who start their examination attempt prior to August 31st 2020will be able to finish their examination attempt using the old question bank until January 31st 2022.

PARTICULAR ATTENTION IS DRAWN TO THE FACT THAT “OLDER” STUDENTS, TRAINED ACCORDING TO THE OLD SYLLABUS, WILL NOT BE ABLE TO START A NEW ATTEMPT USING THE OLD QUESTION BANK AFTER AUGUST 31ST 2020, E.G. FOLLOWING A FAILED ATTEMPT AT CAA EXAMS. AS ALWAYS, THESE STUDENTS WILL NEED TO SEEK FURTHER TRAINING AT AN ATO.

This means that a student who has already done a sitting for ATPL exams with ICETRA in the Integrated ATPL, including the BASIC part, before August 31st 2020, started in the old syllabus and will finish in the old syllabus, given that all ICETRA exams are finished within the conventional time limit. Re-take of any exam within the time limit will be according to the old syllabus

Completing only school exams in not sufficient to remain within the old syllabus.

A student must have taken at least 1 ATPL exam and be in an active examination attempt (that is, hasn‘t failed all the ICETRA exams). If not, the student will then move under the new syllabus as is explained above. The BASIC course for fall semester 2020, and Advanced course in spring semester 2021 will be according to the new syllabus.

A complete re-take of ICETRA exams will be under the new syllabus and will require further training at the ATO for those students who already had studied under the old syllabus.

Example:

  • Students who have completed the relevant ATPL class and taken at least one ATPL exam with ICETRA before August 31st, will finish all their ICETRA exams according to the old syllabus. If a student would fail all the ICETRA exam, he/she would have to do the re-take according to the new syllabus.
  • Students who have completed the BASIC course and are starting the Advanced course this fall, must have taken at least one ICETRA ATPL exam before August 31st to be able to proceed into the Advanced course in the fall.
  • Students who have finished the BASIC course and have taken at least one ICETRA ATPL exam before August 31st, but are not doing the Advanced course this fall, might have to go through additional training and will be required to take the ICETRA exams again, since it is only possible to register students for exams according the new syllabus, from the scratch. The Academy does not plan to have any Advanced courses from to the old syllabus, starting this fall.
  • Students do not have to report to ICETRA from which syllabus they will take their exams as the ICETRA‘s system keeps track of that.
