Jeff Baierlein has been training outdoor professionals in emergency medicine and wilderness rescue since 1997.  Working with Wilderness Medical Associates, Adventure Risk Management and Lodestone Safety International, Jeff has provided instruction and consulting services in ten countries in wilderness medicine and risk management. 

Jeff was certified as a Wilderness EMT in 1993, and since that time has served as team leader, member and trainer with four high-angle and backcountry Search and Rescue teams, directing technical rescues in North America and Asia.  During that time he also provided patient care as an EMT with two ambulance services.  

An expert witness regarding wilderness safety and outdoor education, Jeff has also served as an adventure program accreditation reviewer with the Association for Experiential Education and a safety reviewer with Outward Bound. 

Jeff has been the Executive Director of the Boojum Institute for Experiential Education and Executive Director of the Baltimore Chesapeake Bay Outward Bound Center, and has held leadership roles with other outdoor education, conservation, and environmental education nonprofits.  He has led mountaineering, whitewater kayaking, rock climbing, backpacking, sea kayaking, whitewater and flatwater canoeing, canyoneering, caving, and sailing trips in several countries since 1987.

Jeff serves as Vice Chair of the Washington Advisory Council of the Northwest Outward Bound School.  He has been a Board member of the Association for Experiential Education, the Northwest Environmental Education Council, Prescott College, and the Community Foundation’s Idyllwild Community Fund, as well as a member of the Washington State Governor’s Council on Environmental Education. 

Jeff holds two BA degrees from Prescott College and an MS in Management from Antioch University.
