Commercial Pilot License

do you dream of becoming a professional pilot?

The Commercial Pilot Program is designed for students with no or limited previous experience. The program takes about 12 - 36 months to complete. It is a highly structured and comprehensive program that focuses on your goal of becoming a commercial pilot. In recent years around 90% of our students from this program find a job within the first year of graduation.

Included in the program are both theoretical training and practical training, both done hand in hand at the same time. Students in the integrated ATPL program graduate in the shortest time with all the necessary licenses to be able to apply for a job at an airline. Training includes 100 hours of Instrument flight time in both the aircraft and simulator.

The Commercial Pilot Course can be partially funded by the Icelandic Student loan fund. Information on the Icelandic student fund can be found here.

Included in the fees are all required teaching material, minimum flight hours, and a uniform.

When students are approved for the training program a confirmation fee of 800.000 ISK will need to be paid. The rest of the fees are paid in four separate payments coinciding with the student progressing through each semester.

 Entry Requirements

  • Prospective students must be at least 18 years old at the time courses start

  • As a student pilot, you need to present proof of no criminal record and will be subject to a background check by the Icelandic police authority to gain access permits to airports.

Ground Training

The theoretical courses take place at the headquarters of Keilir at Ásbrú. You can find first-class teaching facilities, a diverse college life and a cafeteria there. In the classroom, students study together under the guidance of experienced teachers in a stimulating environment. The location of Keilir also provides numerous opportunities for field trips and visits to businesses that operate in the immediate surroundings of an international airport. Throughout the course, many seminars are held – led by guest lecturers from various aviation industry sectors.

We aim to be at the forefront of teaching and utilize the latest learning technologies, including market-leading computer-based training, and facilitation in the classroom.

You start with a basic course aimed at giving the required knowledge for the first phases of flight training. After the basic course, you will attend the ATPL (Airline Transport Pilot Licence) theoretical course comprising 14 different subjects.

 Flight Training

The flight training is divided into five different phases, each with different content but with the same goal — providing you with the fundamentals required in commercial aviation.

The program consists of 188 flight hours flown on Diamond DA40 and DA42 NG aircraft, and synthetic flight training devices. We operate from various airfields in Iceland with our main hubs at Keflavik International Airport and Reykjavik Domestic Airport.
