The thermal- & fluid engineering lab provides both students and researchers with state-of-the-art equipment for carrying out research in the fields of thermal and fluid engineering. Initial research in the lab will mainly be in the area of geothermal energy – production and utiliation. Research projects in geothermal energy will include projects such as using steam for drying, geothermal reservoir characterization, understanding and quantifying dual–phase and multi–phase flows, operation and maintenance of heat exchangers, mining of geothermal fluids and heat recovery, e.g. using the Kalina thermodynamic cycle.
The lab will also be used for research in other areas, such as using alternative fuels for combustion engines (methane, hydrogen, methanol, DME and more) and the harnessing of tidal energy.
