More graduates needed with technical degrees

There is a shortage of students seeking technical degrees, reports Vísir. Out of the 2572 students that graduated from university this summer only 579 – or 22.5% – of those graduates left with a technical degree. 

“There is a need to educate quite a lot of people within the technical field, especially engineers, software developers and programmers,” said Jón Ágúst Þorsteinsson, CEO of Marorka. “Companies like Marorka are preparing to look abroad to buy services [due to lack of resources in Iceland] so there are a lot of opportunities here for people wanting to learn software development.”
